Footage (below) has shown that a barn owl box installed at Greystones Farm nature reserve has successfully attracted a potential new tenant on the first night after it is was installed.
Thanks to a generous contribution by Friends of the Cotswolds and the hard work of volunteers and staff, the new homes, which have been going up across the Cotswolds, have been greeted with great enthusiasm by local barn owls.
Although widespread, barn owls have suffered a huge decline in the UK over the last 50 years due to agricultural intensification and habitat loss1.
Working with farmers, landowners, other organisations and local people, the Trust is trying to help halt this decline by providing suitable nest boxes and managing natural habitats for the benefit of both the barn owl and their small mammal prey.
If you’d like to help barn owls bounce back, why not think about volunteering locally. For more information on how to get involved contact our volunteering coordinator by emailing beth.adams@gloucestershirewildlifetrust.co.uk all calling 01452 383333.
