Making A Will For Wildlife
Information on leaving a legacy
By leaving a legacy, you can help prevent Gloucestershire’s precious wildlife from disappearing. After providing for your loved ones, remembering us with a gift in your Will can help us fight for better protection of the county’s natural environment. As we are a registered charity, leaving a legacy is also tax free and will reduce the inheritance tax burden on your estate.
Wills for Wildlife with Phoenix Group
We are delighted to announce that the newly-formed Gloucestershire Law Firm, Phoenix Legal Group has kindly chosen the Trust as their 'Charity of the Year'. An impressive year-long programme of fundraising and promotions have been set up to help the 35 strong team raise a staggering and ambitious £20,000 for the Trust.
One such initiative is Wills for Wildlife. Phoenix Group have kindly agreed to sacrifice their fees, during April, for a suggested donation of £40 for a codicil, £90 for a basic single Will or £125 for a pair of basic mirror Wills. For Wills which are more complex, a separate free for the extra work will be provided outside of the Wills month arrangement.
For an appointment to make or update your Will call Trish Vickers or Julia Hewlett on 01453 757381. They will be able to advise you on everything you need to know on drafting and changing a Will. Please remember quote Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust to ensure a donation is made.
How we will use your legacy
We believe that Gloucestershire’s wildlife is a gift that we should treasure for future generations. For this reason, we are actively involved in a wide range of conservation activities, including:
- Managing over 60 wildlife nature reserves for the benefit of present and future generations
- Protecting Gloucestershire’s most endangered habitats and species
- Campaigning for greater protection of Gloucestershire’s wildlife
- Working closely with farmers and landowners to promote sustainability
- Inspiring children and adults to get involved in the natural world
You can make a real difference
Please consider leaving a legacy to ensure that our natural heritage is protected and appreciated. Every gift, no matter how large or small, will make a difference to Gloucestershire’s wildlife.
Jackie Hawkins talks about her commitment to a better future for Gloucestershire:
“For me, a bequest to a loved one doesn’t have to mean a person; it can include any of the things you have loved in your life. In my case it’s Gloucestershire’s wildlife and countryside that has given me so much pleasure. So in addition to remembering my family and friends in my will, I have made a gift to Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust”
A legacy gift to Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust can be made in several different ways, which your solicitor will explain to you more fully
Flowers in living memory
Instead of buying cut flowers why not make a donation to us for wild flowers instead. Wild flowers are forever and asking relatives and friends to make a donation to Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust will help us secure and maintain areas of wildflower meadow, daffodil woodland and heather-filled heathlands as a permanent feature and lasting memorial. Plant a tree for that special someone
Dedicating and planting a tree is the perfect way to mark a special event like a wedding anniversary, a marriage or christening and also to celebrate a life.
Sometimes the best way to mark the passing of a loved one is to focus on new life.
Planting a tree in memory of someone you have lost is a way to continue life in that person's name.
Lost love hurts in any form and planting a tree in memoriam can not only help to heal grief, but it helps the planet to grow greener.
Planting a new orchard
We are planting a new orchard at Vell Mill nature reserve near Dymock using old local variety apple, pear and plum trees which are in decline.
Initially we plan to plant 60 trees, each one can be bought by family or friends to either celebrate the life of a loved one or mark an important occasion and will be dedicated only once so it will be a unique and special tribute.
The idea will be for families and friends to get involved as much as they want to, from the initial planting to attending specially arranged events on the reserve to eventually, to within 5 years picking their own fruit which they can take away with them or even have the opportunity to have it made into locally produced cider or juice.
